Production - Overview
With the production module of shippingNET manufacture new items (manufacturing items) that are assembled from raw materials available in the warehouse. In the course of the production process, inventory is created from the manufacturing item and the stock of raw materials in the warehouse is reduced accordingly. Based on the bill of materials stored on the production item, the required raw materials are automatically made available at the production site.
Note
- A production item is always inventory-managed and the components are stored as a bill of materials. It can only be delivered if it is available in sufficient quantities.
- A set item, on the other hand, is a non-inventory-managed item with a stored bill of materials. It can only be delivered if all items specified in the bill of materials are available in sufficient quantities. In contrast to the production item, such a set item is picked on an ad hoc basis (without a production order), i.e. the individual parts are transported directly to the destination storage location (e.g. goods issue gate or packaging location) according to the parts list.
Examples:
A set item "Children's Room A" consists of a wardrobe, bed, desk and armchair. Another set item "Children's Room B" could include the same items wardrobe & bed, but without the desk and armchair. If only the wardrobe and bed are in stock, children's room B would be able to be delivered, but children's room A cannot be delivered. If children's room B is ordered, the wardrobe and bed items are outsourced directly without a production process.
A Manufacturing Item "Pet Food" consists of several ingredients that are stored separately. If this is ordered and there is no stock, the stock can be created via a production order that must be created separately, which can then be picked subsequently. Through the production process, the required ingredients are transferred to the production site. Once all the raw materials are available, the production order is ready to be carried out (in this case, mixing the ingredients together). After completion of the production order, the generated inventory is transferred from the production station as well as from any other production site. leftover raw materials are restored. The existing stock of animal feed is now available for picking.
Both Set Items and Manufacturing Items can be nested multiple times. This means that an item composed of a setlist can itself be a raw material for another article.
